mare

The Mare project is inspired by the rich cultural variety that pervades the Mediterranean context. So many cultural realities converge in this sea like so many varieties of fish: large and small ones, of different colors, fish that move in every direction with different rhythms, faster, slower, intersecting and intertwining trajectories just like the wefts of fabric. The pattern represented evokes life and movements within the Mediterranean landscape by highlighting a strong sign: the thread that connects and connects all the elements of this ecosystem.

The sign, in the structure of the composition, is represented by the vertical threads flowing above the blue background and connecting two opposite sides of the carpet as if they were the two shores of the Mediterranean. This column, represents a bridge, that is, a continuous connector of flows, exchanges, and entanglements, which are never interrupted. In fact, the frame, representing the surrounding area, leaves the doors open for the two sides to meet.

Around the flow circulate all the cultural diversities, various, but characterized by the same graphic sign that represents the common identity sign.

A sign of contemporaneity is the representation of the concept of movement: the arrangement of groups of elements of different sizes and grouped in small quantities gives the carpet the rhythmic sense, from the slow movements of the large fish or stingrays, and the almost schizophrenic one of the small jerky fish.

The composition originates with the vertical orientation, with the waves upward and the vertical flow on the left. Underwater, however, the perception of orientation is lost: in this sense, the simplicity of the geometric figures formed by lines, triangles, and rhombuses makes it possible to read the design even if it is oriented horizontally or upside down. Through this aspect, the carpet is presented as a narrative that illustrates both the omnidirectional and almost gravity-free view of the underwater environment and the variety of cultures that converge and dialogue across this sea.
