Cactus is a contemporary design project that aims for innovation by drawing inspiration from the traditional textiles of Samugheo.
Cactus is a game of contrasts, it is a dynamic and spatial project based on the concept of limit that confronts tradition, innovation, craftsmanship and design in contemporary space.
The carpet.
The carpet, elaborated with the loom and traditional techniques of Samughese weaving, abstractly reproduces an icon of Sardinia's landscapes: the fields traced by the prickly pear hedges that soar and extend over the ground cover of the countryside through wild and pungent textures.
Material and light.
The innovation lies in the use of silk in the traditional carpet. A new material worked with traditional techniques pibiones and litzos. In this way, the coarse thread of silk runs through the warp of the rug creating more or less dense areas that when in contact with light, reflect it, creating interesting luminosity effects.
Lifting the carpet from its traditional plane.
The cactus seat stems from the search for an innovative approach to the classical use of the rug, treating an object of flat origin in a three-dimensional way, proposing a different contact between the rug and the architectural space and between the rug and the human body. The proposal is to detach the carpet from the flat surface on which it rests and to leave it suspended in the air.
